A Cure for Heart Failure Discovered

U.S. scientists have successfully restored lost heart function in pigs with severe heart failure using an innovative gene therapy. The new method can nearly return the heart to its normal state, raising hope for an effective treatment for humans with similar conditions.

According to Army.Az, the study has been published in the journal Regenerative Medicine.

The research was conducted by a team from the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute at the University of Utah. A key role was played by a specific protein—cardiac BIN1 (cBIN1)—which is significantly reduced in patients with heart failure.

The team now plans to adapt this developed method for safe application in humans. The first clinical trials on humans are expected to begin as early as September 2025, pending regulatory approval.
